Building a Community-Based Church

Bringing help, hope, and a healing hand to a our worldwide community

Every year Redeemer members spend countless hours serving the greater Richmond area and beyond through various ministry efforts. Through the initiatives below and many others, Redeemer has established an on-going tradition of bringing the love of Christ to those in need.

Appalachia Servant Event

Every summer a group of Redeemer youth and adults join with other Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod congregations to repair and improve homes in Maryland and West Virginia.

CCHASM (Chesterfield-Colonial Heights Alliance for Social Ministry)

CCHASM partners with many churches across the area to provide financial support (rent and utilities), food pantry, counseling, social worker assistance, and many other services. Redeemer partners with CCHASM by stocking an on-site food pantry that serves an average of 12 families per month.

Christmas Mother Giving Tree

Each November Redeemer members purchase 200-240 gifts for Richmond area families in need.

Good Samaritan Inn

This local shelter provides meals and other services to families on Richmond's South Side. Redeemer members prepare weekly meals for Good Samaritan guests and provide food for nearly 200 people for Good Samaritan's annual Thanksgiving Meal.

Habitat for Humanity

Every year Redeemer funds and volunteers assist in building homes for qualified Habitat homeowners in the Richmond area.

Women's Battered Shelter & Clinic

Redeemer's Thursday morning quilting group prepares quilts to give to battered women and their children.

Cul-de-sac Events

Once a month, a group of volunteers from Redeemer Lutheran Church sponsors a themed community connection event within a nearby cul-de-sac, for the purpose(s) of developing relationships with our neighbors, learning their felt needs (which helps inform the additional ways in which we may bless and serve our community in the future), and sharing our MOST important relationship of all - that with Jesus Christ (which informs ALL we say, think, and do). Prior to each event, volunteers hand-deliver invitational fliers to neighbors within the community, in addition to re-engaging neighbors from past events. On the day of the event, neighbors can expect:

  • A FREE Meal (food, drink, snacks)
  • A Variety of Creative Games (developed by volunteers)
  • Casual Conversation
  • Music
  • Prayer support
  • Crafts for children
  • An authentic witness as to WHO Redeemer Lutheran is…
  • The Presence of Jesus Christ
