What is a small group?

Whether you call it a small group, discipleship group, or something else, it is an intentional gathering that meets regularly for the purpose of becoming better Disciples of Christ. Groups are anywhere from 3-20 people (depending on what your meeting space allows). Groups do not need to be all members of Redeemer, in fact, inviting friends and neighbors is encouraged! Groups usually meet in homes, at Redeemer or other locations around our communities.

What will you do in a small group?

Activities of a small group include the 4 W’s – Welcome, Worship, Word, and Works. The welcome is your time to fellowship and get to know each other. The worship is your time to praise God for who He is and what He has done for you. This can take the form of music, prayer, psalms, etc. The word is time spent studying God’s Word. This can be a book or theme of the Bible, a DVD series, or other related books and materials. We have lots of resources, so don’t be afraid to ask! And finally, works are the ways you can share your faith and serve together as a group. Do you like to cook? Collect items for ministries? Build houses? Send encouraging cards and notes? There are many ways your group can find to serve the Kingdom of God.

What does a small group look like?

Groups come in all shapes and sizes – married couples, singles, men’s, women’s, kids, no kids, workplace, under 20, over 40 - the list goes on! No matter where you are in life, it is important to have a group of people you get together with on a regular basis to study God’s Word and have fun!

When do small groups meet?

Regularly! Some groups will meet weekly, twice a month or even just once a month. We encourage you to find a group that works with your schedule while still challenging you to spend more time building your relationship with God and others.

Who leads a small group?

Disciples! Anyone can lead a small group. Redeemer has many opportunities to train as a leader and build your leadership skills. Developing new leaders is essential to the growth in both number and types of groups we are able to offer, so please consider leadership if you are being led in this direction.

How do I join a small group?

Just ask! Check out our directory of groups to help you choose a group that appeals to you. You can also contact Pastor Matt Bean at mbean@redeemerric.org for help in finding a group.
